The End of Career Politicians

The recent passing of the Health Care Reform bill by the United States Senate is just the beginning of true and complete health care change. But looking at the numbers of the votes got me thinking:

What is wrong with American politics?

The answer? Too many people get into politics with the agenda of "What can I stop?" or "What can I oppose?", when it should be "What can we do together to create the best for the American people?" Career politicians forget what is was like to come from the civilian population. They forget what they wanted to fight for.

Only one Republican in the House votes FOR the bill and his office is inundated with hate calls and calls for his resignation. Really? When did we become Us vs. Them? When did we stop being Americans and become Liberal or Conservative Americans? I have a friend, a self-described Reagan Conservative (oh boy), tell me that he could be friends with a Democrat, but not a Liberal Democrat.

Too many people in this country have forgotten that it is the very diversity that we all bitch about that makes and has always made America a wonderful place. I just don't understand how you can think less of a person or think them beneath you simply because of their opposing view. That's not what the founding fathers wanted.

The Right will tel you that the majority of Americans don't want health care reform. Yet, health care reform was Obama's biggest campaign promise. He won, easily, over John McCain. Surely all those people that voted for Obama didn't DISAGREE with his plans.

160 million votes. That's all I'm saying.
